The second night of the 42nd Ayia Napa International Festival evolved into an impressive cultural blockbuster, with an unprecedented turnout of visitors, magnificent dance performances and an exceptional musical encounter, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, confirming the dynamic and international reach of one of Cyprus' longest-running cultural institutions.

The Central Square "George Seferis" was flooded with thousands of visitors, Cypriots and foreigners, who attended a multidimensional artistic program of high standards, with impressive stage production, large-scale choreographies and excellent musical performances.

The large turnout, the enthusiasm of the audience and the particularly positive impressions left by the organization created the image of a great cultural celebration, which highlighted Ayia Napa as a meeting place of different cultures and contemporary artistic creation.

The official opening of the Festival was declared by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr. Christos Senekis, while greetings were delivered by the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, and the Deputy Mayor of the Ayia Napa Municipal District, Mr. Antonis Christou.

In his greeting, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, highlighted the strategic importance of the Festival for the cultural development, international visibility and modern identity of the Municipality. He made particular reference to the multicultural character of Ayia Napa, pointing out that the coexistence of people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds is an integral element of its character.

He also referred to the new reality of the unified Municipality of Ayia Napa, emphasizing that the five Municipal Districts – Ayia Napa, Sotira, Liopetri, Avgorou and Achna – constitute a Municipality with a rich cultural heritage, different local identities and a common development perspective.

Mr. Zannetou emphasized that cultural creation is an essential field of cooperation and unity, through which the traditions, people and special characteristics of each Municipal District are equally highlighted.

In this context, he thanked the Deputy Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Antonis Christou, for his contribution and cooperation.

For his part, the Deputy Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Antonis Christou, referred to the long history of the International Festival and its contribution to the cultural identity of the city. He placed particular emphasis on the importance of maintaining and continuously upgrading an institution that is inextricably linked to the history of Ayia Napa, its cultural extroversion and the participation of the local community. At the same time, he highlighted the collective effort required to implement an event of this scale.

The official opening of the 42nd Ayia Napa International Festival was declared by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr. Christos Senekis, in the presence of representatives of the local authorities, official guests and a large number of visitors. The presence of the Minister gave special institutional significance to the opening ceremony of a cultural institution with a long history, which is an integral part of the cultural identity of Ayia Napa.

The official opening ceremony marked the culmination of the ceremonial part of the evening, highlighting the importance of the event for the cultural life of the place, the international promotion of Ayia Napa and the promotion of cultural creation as an integral element of the modern physiognomy of the Municipality.

The artistic program began with the Cyprus Police Philharmonic, which presented a musical program at the Makariou Avenue roundabout, near the Medieval Monastery of Ayia Napa, creating a special festive atmosphere.

A special place in the artistic program was occupied by the presence of the Ukrainian School, with the participation of more than 50 children, who conveyed messages of cultural identity, unity and creative coexistence on stage. The presentation began with the screening of specially designed audiovisual material, followed by the appearance of the children on stage, offering the audience a particularly moving moment.

The participation of the Ukrainian School and the children was a substantial expression of the multicultural character of the Festival, highlighting Ayia Napa as a place where different cultural communities meet, create and share their cultural heritage through art.

One of the most impressive productions of this year's event followed. More than 50 dancers of the National Dance Ensemble "ROMIOSYNI" presented the super spectacle "Flames of the Caucasus - From Georgia to Pontus", bringing to the stage the power, dynamism and cultural wealth of the wider Caucasus region.

The impressive choreography, the authentic costumes, the musical changes and the exceptional stage presence of the dancers created a highly aesthetic spectacle, which received warm applause from the audience. The production highlighted in a particularly vivid way the cultural routes connecting Georgia, the Caucasus and the Pontus.

The evening culminated with the grand concert by Kostas Makedonas and Maria Theodotou, who gave the large audience a special musical experience, full of beloved melodies and performances that created intense emotion and enthusiasm.

The two artists were accompanied by the "ORPHEAS" Musical Ensemble of the "Panikos Hatzihambis" Foundation, with orchestrations and artistic direction by Admitos Pitsillidis, contributing decisively to the high musical level of the concert.

Beyond the main stage, "George Seferis" Square was transformed into a vibrant cultural environment, with exhibitions, outdoor art installations, traditional arts, creative activities and artistic interventions.

Visitors had the opportunity to tour different spaces of artistic expression, meet creators and participate in experiential activities, enjoying a comprehensive cultural and entertainment experience.

The overall picture of the second evening, from the artistic production and stage presentation to the massive audience participation, highlighted the potential of the 42nd Ayia Napa International Festival to host major cultural productions, with organizational and artistic standards corresponding to those of international events.
