Ayia Napa was awash in light, sound and colour on Wednesday night, with the spectacular opening of the Ayia Napa Medieval Festival, which was a huge success, attracting thousands of people, both local and foreign visitors. The atmosphere was magical, with the Central Square “Georgos Seferis” and the areas around the Monastery filled with the sounds of medieval music, impressive costumes, theatrical acts, bonfires, acrobatics and performances that transported the audience to another era.

From early afternoon, three different points of the city, the Northern entrance of the Medieval Monastery, the officials' stand near the small roundabout on Makariou Avenue, and the central stand, were filled with spectators who enthusiastically watched the medieval music and dance performances, and the events that were excellently presented by the fourteen groups from Italy, Spain, Belarus, Poland, the Netherlands, and Germany.

The climax of the evening came at 21:00 PM, with the grand concert of Yannis Kotsiras, who took the stage, giving the audience an unforgettable musical experience. Together with him, Dimitra Moraitis and the team of exceptional musicians created an atmosphere of emotion, energy and genuine entertainment, with songs that have marked generations – from “Tsigaro” and “Kapou tha vrethom” to “Sasmos” and “Ena feggari dromos” – flooding the square with emotion and melody.

The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, in his statements expressed his emotion for the great response from the public, noting at the same time that the Ayia Napa Medieval Festival is now an institution of international scope, which promotes the history, culture and identity of our city.

This year's launch proved once again that Ayia Napa can offer magical experiences that combine culture and tradition."

Tonight's program (Thursday, October 09) begins at 19:00 PM, with medieval music and dance performances, which will begin simultaneously in three locations around the city. At the Entrance to the Square (officials' stand), spectators will have the opportunity to enjoy the group "I Nibecorti" (The Little Vikings) and the music and dance group "Dworek Polsky", while the impressive flags of the "Gruppo Storico Sbandieratori Fivizzano" will bring the Italian flag tradition to life. The program continues with the music and dance groups "Ballet Armas Group" and "Ballet Guerrers (Warriors Dancers)", which will fill the atmosphere with rhythm and energy.

In the Upper Square, at the North Entrance of the Monastery, the audience will enjoy the explosive performance of the musical group "Ventus Eurus" and the stilts of the "Pavana" group, while the flags of the "Sbandieratori Borgo San Lorenzo" will offer an impressive spectacle. The "Steam Show" group will present a demonstration with fires and dragons, creating a unique atmosphere of magic and fantasy.

On the Main Stage, the performances will begin with the musical group “Spiritual Seasons”, the stilt-balloons of the group “Voyage Fantastique”, as well as the flags of the “Storici Sbandieratori Delle Contrade Di Cori”. The group “I Nibecorti” (The Little Vikings) and the musical and dance group “Ballet Guerrers (Warriors Dancers)” will close the first part of the performances with dance, music and energy that captivates the audience.

From 20:30 to 22:00, spectators will enjoy a spectacular continuation with the musical group “Ventus Eurus”, the stilt walkers of the “Pavana” group and the flags of the “Gruppo Storico Sbandieratori Fivizzano”. The musical and dance group “Ballet Armas Group” will continue to enchant the audience, while the “Steam Show” group will impress with a fire and dragon show. Finally, the soap bubbles from the “Bubble on Circus – Wonder Walks Group” group will add a playful and magical touch, closing an evening full of magic and spectacle.
