Famagusta, 26 October 2024 – A group of around 40 'Paddle for Autism' volunteers will run a 70km stand-up paddleboard ultramarathon to raise money to build the Smile Project Multipurpose Centre, which will provide daily care and education in adults with autism.
Action:
The route will start from Zygi and end at the Marina of Ayia Napa, with the support of the teams of the Begafico sailing group from Famagusta and Windsurfers on Tour from Limassol. Accompanied by boats for safety reasons, the participants will cover 70 kilometers in about 12 hours, thereby promoting autism and boosting the collection of donations.
Smaller groups of volunteers will join forces in the last 45 and 5 kilometers of the route, finishing together at the Ayia Napa Marina. A team from Syros will also participate in the event, which will run its own 20-kilometer route on the same day, supporting the effort from afar.
The public is invited to watch the arrival of the volunteers at the finish which will be accompanied by a large charity event at Ayia Napa Marina from 5:00 pm. until 8:00 p.m.
At the point in front of the ¨Event center¨ the marina event hall, a nice charity event will be set up with a Live Link, a raffle with gifts from sponsors and food and drink stands from which part of their proceeds will go to the cause.
This sea journey of love is planned to take place in parallel with the three-day International Autism conference entitled: "Autism: A Complex Riddle" which will be held October 25-27 at the Nissi Beach Resort in Ayia Napa by the Autism Support Association of Famagusta , in collaboration with BIAC- Balkan International Autism Conference and with the approval of the World Autism Organization WAO World Autism Organization. The Smile Project Multipurpose Center for adults with autism will be a modern, fully equipped care, education and hospitality space, dedicated to supporting people with autism and their families.
The goal will be to provide integrated services through specialized educational and therapeutic programs, which strengthen the skills of individuals and improve their quality of life, in a friendly, dignified and safe environment.
