Letter to the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis. concerning their unification in one Municipality were sent by the Mayors of Ayia Napa and Sotiras, Giannis Karousos and Giorgos Ttakkas and the Commune Mayor of Liopetri Kyriakos Trisokkas
The letter mentions the "unanimous decisions of the three Councils for their merger into one Municipality" and adds that "with the merger of Ayia Napa, Sotiras and Liopetri, the largest tourist Municipality of Cyprus will be created, with an active population that will exceed 5., 000 on average on an annual basis. This Municipality will combine all the benefits and advantages of the tourism of Ayia Napa with the advantages of the hinterland of Sotira and Liopetri, but also of the common coastal front that will be created, with fair tourist, economic, social and cultural development ", it is added .
The letter talks about the reform of the Local Government and notes that "our position is that in the context of the reform the views of the Councils should be seriously taken into account and where there is a consensus for mergers they should be promoted".
The letter, which is also communicated to the Speaker of Parliament, the Minister of Interior, the Speakers of the parliamentary parties, the Members of Parliament, the President of the Union of Municipalities and the President of the Union of Communities, adds that "we have no doubt that the merger of the three to create a Municipality in which in the whole territory on the one hand, the citizens will enjoy a better standard of living and on the other hand the visitors a multitude of services, experiences, reference points and special interests of tourism while the businesses will prosper ".
