The 19th Medieval Festival of Ayia Napa was a huge success, which closed on Saturday, October 19, with the great parade that took place along Makariou Avenue, in which all the bands and groups participated, as well as with the great concert of the excellent artists Fotini Velesiotou, Babi Tserto and Sofia Papazoglou "From Asia Minor to Piraeus".
For eight days, Ayia Napa was transformed into a fairytale medieval city with thousands of visitors flooding the main streets and squares of the city to enjoy the excellent spectacles and demonstrations of fifteen notable music and dance bands, groups and artists from Cyprus and abroad both by during the parades as well as on the stage and become one with the knights, acrobats, princesses, witches, fairies, and fairytale heroes. They also enjoyed the excellent concerts given by great Greek and Cypriot Artists, who were applauded by the audience.
Celebrating the end of the Festival and declaring the 20th Medieval Festival of Ayia Napa, the Mayor Mr. Christos Zannettou stated that the new Municipality of Ayia Napa managed through its excellent performances and next to the sacred and historical site of the Medieval Monastery, to make a retrospective in history and in Culture from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to the present day, simultaneously presenting to local and foreign visitors, the rich tradition of the place and the achievements of our cultural activity.
He also welcomed the innovations that have been made at this year's Festival, such as the participation of groups from all the Departments of the Municipality and that the foreign groups presented their program off stage in two different parts of the Central Square, i.e. in the Upper Square, north side of the Monastery and on the side of the Monastery as well as in Agios Georgios Square – in Limanaki so that a festive atmosphere will overwhelm the city more widely and he assured that Culture, Cultural activity will not stop in Ayia Napa, it will continue, be upgraded and enriched and now that it has been expanded.
Mr. Zannettou also announced the launch of the single electronic informative monthly program of events, which includes all the events organized by all the Apartments and their Local Bodies, as well as the dates and places where the Illuminations will be held throughout the territory of the Municipality.
During the event, gifts were exchanged by the Mayor Mr. Christos Zannettos, with the Mayor of Mellieha Malta Mr. Gabriel Micallef and with the heads of the foreign teams.
