Famagusta MP George Karoulas emphasizes the urgent need to immediately address sea erosion in Ayia Napa.
As his statement:
The sea erosion affecting the beaches of Ayia Napa is not just a natural phenomenon; it is a constant threat to our environment, the local community and the tourism that supports the economy of the area. Unfortunately, valuable years have been lost in delays and inaction as sea erosion expands the sea area at the expense of the beach, something that is being experienced intensely. Valuable time has been lost. We no longer have the luxury of further postponements and discussions between the authorities.
It is urgently necessary to find the best solution and to proceed with its implementation quickly. The productive coordination of all relevant departments is a demanding prerequisite, in order to ensure at the same time the protection of the natural environment and the sustainability of businesses that live from the sea and beaches.
In this context, we call on those responsible to reach, through joint and continuous consultation, a specific and agreed solution that serves both the natural environment and the local community.
The sea is a source of life and development, not a cause of loss. Ayia Napa needs action today, to secure tomorrow.
