Ayia Napa hosts a photo exhibition from the archives of the Archaeological Museum of Athens.
A written announcement of the Municipality of Ayia Napa states that the exhibition entitled "From the registration of monuments to the emergence of memory", donated by the Archaeological Museum of Athens, is hosted at the Municipal Museum Thalassa.
The inauguration of the exhibition that took place on the initiative of the Association of Friends of the Sculpture Park "Aroma of Ayia Napa", was held last night by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulidis.
The exhibition includes photographic snapshots from the rich archive of the National Archaeological Museum, which capture and document the titanic work of hiding its exhibits during World War II in order to protect them from bombing and looting as well as the painstaking reconstruction work. of the Museum after the end of the occupation.
In his greeting, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Giannis Karousos, stated that "culture is one of the most important pillars that supports our society and as such we should support it. In this context, the Municipality of Ayia Napa has included in its priorities the issues related to the promotion of culture and the promotion of our cultural identity, with the main goal of encouraging artistic creation and the creation of such conditions, so that art and culture are accessible to every citizen ".
The Mayor also referred to the implementation of important projects that will take place in Ayia Napa, including the construction of the Outdoor Amphitheater, the Underwater Park and the expansion of the Municipal Museum.
Mr. Karousos also referred to the launch in the next few days of the "Seferis Symposium" and the Sculpture Symposium and "the decision of the Municipal Council to claim Ayia Napa in 2030 the title of Cultural Capital. We believe that we can submit a remarkable and competitive and creative proposal, which will combine Tourism with Culture ".
He also noted that "all cultural activities organized by the Municipality, including the Sculpture Symposia, the Seferis Symposium, the Sculpture Park and the underwater Museum, will be the core of claiming the title of Cultural Capital".
In the Municipal Council, he continued, "the issue of creating a non-profit organization called" Ayia Napa 2030 "will be raised soon, which will undertake the completion of the file and its submission in order to claim the title of" European Capital of Culture "for 2030. ».
