The play staged by the Satirical Theatre, translated and directed by Andreas Araouzou, travels for a performance and closes in the Municipality of Ayia Napa
The Ayia Napa Municipality Theatre Quarterly presents the Obie Award-winning play "An Iliad", by the Satirical Theatre, translated and directed by Andreas Araouzos, on Sunday, February 01, 2026, at 7:00pm at the Municipal Theatre of the Sotiras Municipal District of the Ayia Napa Municipality.
Despina Bebedeli confronts the most primal narrative, taking on the role of the first great creator of European and Western literature. Homer, the origin of poetry, finds his universal voice this year through the interpretation of our leading actress.
The play "An Iliad" by the Americans Lisa Peterson and Denis O' Hare, based on Homer's Iliad as translated into English by Robert Fagles, is a modern and fascinating version of the Homeric epic, which illuminates the disastrous - over time - consequences that humanity suffers from war conflicts. It is a fascinating theatrical experience where the Poet tells the tale of war, archomania, arrogance, arrogance and hubris, which is repeated throughout the centuries, crushing man. Modern reality confirms the visionary power of the great rhapsodist.
Mrs. Bepedeli's costumes are curated by Lakis Genethlis, the set designs by Nikos Mylonas, the lighting by Vikentios Christianidis and the music by Dimitris Zachariou, while Christina Psara is the assistant director.
"The play AN ILIAD is a disturbing triumph. An echo of the past, a commentary on the present, and an ominous warning for the future..."
Chicago Sun-Times.
