The issue of local government reform was discussed yesterday by AKEL General Secretary Andros Kyprianou and Ayia Napa Mayor Giannis Karousos.
A written announcement of the Municipality of Ayia Napa states that “the Mayor took into account Mr. Kyprianou, the suggestions of the Municipality and his Municipal team for the provisions of the bill for the reform of the Local Government that need great improvement and for the peculiarities of Ayia Napa . Mr. Karousos also informed the Secretary General of AKEL the reasons why Ayia Napa should not be merged with another Municipality in the context of the planned reform of Local Government ".
After the meeting, Giannis Karousos stated that "today we presented to the General Secretary of AKEL the views and suggestions of the citizens of Ayia Napa for the planned reform of Local Government, the improvements that must be made and other issues related to this issue."
He added that "we will continue the contacts with the other political leaders with the ultimate goal of proceeding with the reform of the Local Self-Government with the right provisions and the priority of improving the lives of our citizens".
According to the announcement, the Municipal team of AKEL Ayia Napa and members of the local Secretariat of AKEL Ayia Napa also attended the meeting.
