The Municipality of Ayia Napa and the Cyprus Theatre Organization (THOK) are entering a new era of cooperation, following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation, today, Wednesday, June 11, at the Ayia Napa Municipal Hall, thus sealing an important strategic partnership for the promotion of education, art and culture.

The Memorandum, signed by the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of THOK, Mr. Pantelis Voutouris, provides for the joint development of educational, artistic and research activities, as well as the creation of the Theater Scenography Center in the former Ayia Napa Theater Complex.

The aim of the cooperation is to enhance the cultural life of Ayia Napa, to promote theatrical art and to create opportunities for professional and amateur artists through seminars, lectures and theatrical productions. The two Parties are committed to regularly reviewing and strengthening the cooperation, while the possibility of expanding it to other areas of common interest is also envisaged. This cooperation constitutes an important step for the interconnection of local government and institutional cultural bodies with the aim of artistic development and social participation.

Welcoming the signing of the Memorandum, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, stated that the signing of the Memorandum with the THOK signals the firm commitment of the Ayia Napa Municipality to strengthening its cultural identity. “Ayia Napa,” he said, “is not only a tourist destination, but also a place that promotes culture and through this cooperation, and with the establishment of the Scenography Center, we are laying the foundations for the creation of a dynamic space for artistic exchange and education.”

He also noted that this collaboration confirms the dynamic that results from collaborations between public and cultural institutions, paving the way for quality actions focused on education, artistic expression and social participation. Finally, he expressed his heartfelt thanks to the President and the Board of Directors of THOK for their trust and practical support.

For his part, the President of THOK, Mr. Voutouris, expressed his great joy at the signing of the agreement, emphasizing at the same time that "today's cooperation with the Municipality of Ayia Napa strengthens THOK's connection with local communities and strengthens our goal of spreading theater and art to every corner of Cyprus.

"The creation of the Scenography Center," he emphasized, "is a particularly promising initiative, which will serve as a springboard for creativity and extroversion. I am certain that with the support of the Municipality, important actions with a substantial impact will be implemented."
