With an impressive lighting ceremony, which took place on Saturday evening in the crowded "George Seferis" Central Square, the Ayia Napa Municipality officially declared the start of this year's Christmas season.
The event began with a rich and excellent artistic program, curated and presented by Evolution Dance Studio, Elite School of Dance, Vision Dance Studio, the departments of the Ayia Napa Municipality Open School, the Ayia Napa Municipal Dance Club, the Niki & Christos Karaiskou Conservatory and the “Passion Dance” Dance School – Elena Ttofa. A feast of music, dance and Christmas atmosphere created a scene that thrilled young and old.
Around 18:30, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, accompanied by the Deputy Mayors of the Municipal Districts of Ayia Napa, Sotiras, Liopetri, Avgorou and Achna, Messrs. Antonis Koumis, Markos Koumis, Panagis Michailas and Antonis Christou as well as the Municipal Councilor of the Municipal District of Ayia Napa, Ms. Tasoula Tsokki Koumis, the DISY MP of Famagusta, the President of the EOAA, Mr. Yiannis Karousos, the President of the Ayia Napa School Board, Mr. Sergis Sergis, the Protopresbyter Rev. Father Vasilios Nikolaou and Father Charalambos, gave the signal for the official lighting of the Christmas decorations, pressing the established button in a climate of joy and enthusiasm.
Both the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, and the Deputy Mayor of the Ayia Napa Municipal District, Mr. Antonis Christou, expressed their warm thanks to the Parents' Associations of Ayia Napa "Antonis Tsokkos" Primary School and the Ayia Napa Public/Community Kindergarten for their support, as well as to all the artistic groups that contributed with their excellent performances to the beautiful festive program. At the same time, they thanked everyone who worked diligently for the impeccable organization and the successful outcome of the evening. In closing, they wished all citizens and visitors a Merry Christmas, happy holidays with health, love and family warmth.
The show was stolen by the great concert of Marseaux and Mente Fuerte, who, with their energetic program and all their popular hits, captivated the audience in a unique musical evening.
The venue offered free Christmas activities for children, a hotline with Santa Claus, Christmas mascots, as well as the established Christmas Bazaar of the Parents' Associations of Ayia Napa "Antonis Tsokkos" Primary School and Ayia Napa Public/Community Kindergarten, with delicacies, drinks and festive creations.
Particularly moving was the action "A Gift of Love, A Smile", co-organized by the Social
Municipal officials, the Ayia Napa Church Youth Band and the Ayia Napa Youth. Citizens of all ages offered gifts for children in the community in need, sending a strong message of love and solidarity.
