The students of the Eco School of Pascal Private English School Lefkosia (PASKAL Private Greek School Lefkosia) visited Konnos beach on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, to see up close the wooden structure they created and donated to the Municipality of Ayia Napa, which aims to collect and reuse children's toys that are often abandoned on beaches, so that they do not end up in the trash, but are offered again for use by other children.
The action is part of the reBLUE program, which aims to reduce plastic waste on beaches. It is worth noting that the school has been distinguished in a global competition of the Foundation for Environmental Education, in the context of Sustainable Development, for this project.
The students were welcomed by Mr. Tasos Pateras, Head of Warehouses and Beach Beds/Umbrellas of the Municipality of Ayia Napa, who, on behalf of the Mayor Mr. Christos Zannetou, warmly thanked the children and their teachers for their excellent and particularly beneficial initiative.
Mr. Pateras noted that the construction has already yielded significant results in practice, facilitating the reuse of toys and contributing to the cleanliness of the beaches. At the same time, he urged the students to create other similar constructions, so that they can be placed on all the beaches of the Municipality.
Mr. Pateras also praised the school for its original and innovative ideas around the reuse of plastic toys, emphasizing that such actions make a substantial contribution to promoting the circular economy.
She also emphasized that these efforts actively contribute to the improvement of the Municipality's environmental policy and the protection of the local ecosystem and natural wealth. For her part, the program manager (ECO Coordinator) at the school, Cristina Jimeneset, warmly thanked the Municipality of Ayia Napa for its support and cooperation.
He stressed the importance of raising students' awareness of environmental responsibility issues and stated that such actions offer children the opportunity to actively contribute to environmental protection, cultivating their ecological awareness.
He finally stated that the school will continue to develop similar actions that enhance sustainability and the active participation of the new generation in the green transition.
