Students of Eco and Blue School PASCAL Private Secondary School Lefkosia visited Agia Thekla beach on Monday, June 15, 2026, where they delivered to the Municipality of Ayia Napa a wooden structure for the collection and reuse of children's toys that are often abandoned on beaches.
Through this initiative, toys do not end up in the trash, but are offered again for use by other children, contributing to the reduction of plastic waste and the promotion of the circular economy.
The action is part of the reBLUE project, which aims to reduce plastic waste on Cypriot beaches. The school has even been awarded a prize in a global competition by the Foundation for Environmental Education, in the context of Sustainable Development, for this specific project.
The students were welcomed by the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, the Deputy Mayor of Sotiras, Mr. Antonis Koumis, and Mr. Tasos Pateras from the Beaches Department of the Ayia Napa Municipality, who warmly thanked the children and the teachers for their commendable and particularly beneficial initiative.
The Mayor of Ayia Napa said that this innovative idea has already yielded significant results in practice, as it was first implemented four years ago on Konnos beach, facilitating the reuse of toys and contributing to the cleanliness of the beaches. At the same time, he urged the students to continue their effort, creating other similar structures, with the aim of placing them on all the beaches of the Municipality.
He also congratulated the school for its original and innovative environmental actions, emphasizing that such initiatives strengthen the Municipality's environmental policy, contribute to the protection of the local ecosystem and cultivate in the new generation values of respect, responsibility and active participation in the green transition.
