The Municipality of Ayia Napa had the pleasure and honor of hosting the 1st Rhetoric Summer School, an initiative within the framework of the action "I produce culture, I don't just talk about it", aiming to strengthen youth education and cultivate the art of rhetoric.
The educational workshops took place on June 27, 28 and 30, 2025 at the "Georgos Seferis" Cultural Center and were aimed at XNUMXrd grade and XNUMXth grade high school students in our area. Through creative exercises, experiential scenarios and group work, the participants were introduced to the basic principles of rhetoric, public speaking and structured argumentation.
The course was honored with a speech by Dr. Kyriakos Kolovos, mathematician, holder of a master's degree in Applied Mathematics, diploma holder in journalism, holder of a master's and doctoral degrees in "Communication and Journalism", from the Open University of Cyprus, with a focus on Political Communication.
The program was coordinated by the philologist and teacher of Rhetoric, PhD candidate at the National University of Athens, Mr. Argyris Bozikas, in collaboration with the philologist Ms. Dionysia Panagopoulou and with the active participation of the Rhetoric Club of the "Agios Kosmas the Aetolian" Lyceum from Attica.
The children and their companions were welcomed at the Ayia Napa Cultural Center "George Seferis", on behalf of the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, by the Deputy Mayor of the Ayia Napa Municipal District, Mr. Antonis Christou, who in his statement emphasized that the Municipality actively supports every action that strengthens thought, dialogue, cultural cultivation and youth creativity. "Ayia Napa", he added, "has the ability and the responsibility to be a living cell of culture and education for the new generations".
He also expressed his warm thanks to all the contributors and participants and assured that the Municipality of Ayia Napa "will continue to consistently support initiatives that build bridges of knowledge and cooperation."
During their stay here, the students from Athens were hosted in the renovated Children's Countryside of the Greek Girls' High School of Famagusta, while throughout the program, meals were provided through sponsorships from individuals and the Church of Panagia Agia Napa, highlighting once again the essence of Cypriot hospitality.
The Municipality of Ayia Napa sponsored an educational trip for the participants to Nicosia, with visits to the Prisoner's Tombs and the Leventis Municipal Museum, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation Struggle of '55–'59 and the 51st anniversary of the Turkish invasion of 1974.
