The three-day festivities of the Flood, the Fish Festival and the Water Festival, organized by the Municipality of Ayia Napa, concluded with great success on Monday evening.
The program culminated with a traditional musical and dance performance of Cypriot dances and songs, presented by the Ayia Napa Municipality Dance Group and the “Kimon” Dance Group of Xylotymbos. The event was accompanied by a competition of folk poetry, love songs and tsiattismas, highlighting the living folk tradition and authentic Cypriot expression. The prizes and honorary diplomas were awarded to the winners by Mr. Sergis Sergis, Member of the Municipal Council and President of the Ayia Napa School Ephorate.
Earlier in the morning, a solemn Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the chapel of Agios Georgios in the port of Ayia Napa. After it ended, the faithful boarded boats and went to the sea area of the caves, off the harbor, where the ceremony of throwing the Holy Cross and the consecration of the waters took place. Faithful and visitors watched with devotion as swimmers dived into the sea to retrieve the cross, honoring the custom.
The Cataclysm events in Ayia Napa, which combine religious devotion with cultural tradition, confirm for yet another year the city's unique character as a destination for culture and authentic experiences.
