The Mayor Mr. Christos Zannettou attended the celebrations organized by the Municipality of Mellieha Malta on the occasion of the completion of 15 years since the twinning
of Ayia Napa with Mellieha.
The excellent relationship between the two cities was highlighted and the will of both sides to further strengthen cooperation in all fields was expressed.
For the excellent relationship that has developed as well as the need to further upgrade the cooperation between Mellieha, which is twinned with Ayia Napa, the city of Malta, in all sectors was highlighted during the contacts that the Mayor had, Mr. Christos Zannettou together with the Deputy Mayors of the Municipalities of Ayia Napa and Liopetriou Mr. Antonis Christou and Marko Koumis, both with the Political and Local Authorities of the Maltese city during their three-day visit, which was made possible, following an invitation from the Mayor Mr. Gabriel Micallef and the Municipal Council of Mellieha at the official celebrations on the occasion of the completion of fifteen years since the twinning of the two cities was signed.
The delegation of the Municipality of Agia Napa headed by the Mayor Mr. Christos Zannettou had a meeting with the Leader of the Nationalist Party of Malta Dr Bernard Grech, the Labor Party MP and Parliamentary Secretary Ms. Alison Zerafa, with whom he had a constructive meeting where he informed them extensively about the new Municipality of Ayia Napa, about the fraternal relations that the Municipality of Ayia Napa has developed over the last 15 years with Mellieha as well as about other matters of common interest.
At the official ceremony to celebrate the 15th anniversary of twinning between the two cities held at the "Choral and Orchestral Society Maria Bambina" Cultural Center in the presence of official and distinguished guests, the achievements that have been achieved in these fifteen years were celebrated and underlined by both Mayors all what needs to be done to further strengthen this cooperation. During the ceremony the Mayor Mr. Christos Zannettou signed the visitors' book, souvenirs were exchanged between the two sides and they watched the amazing concert presented by the musical trio of the "Choral and Orchestral Society Maria Bambina" with Juliette Zammit (flute), Michael Bonanno (clarinet) and Florence Aquilina (cello).
They also visited the Cultural Associations La Vittoria Band Club, a historic band founded in 1906 and consisting of more than sixty musicians where they had the opportunity to watch in a packed hall an amazing Christmas concert, the Imperial Band Club, the Choral and Orchestral Society Maria Bambina and the Mellieha Football Club, the Tunnara Fishing Tackle Museum, the Red and white tower, where they were given a guided tour about the history of the city.
The two Mayors planted two symbolic trees in the "Agia Napa" Park and then watched the parade of the scout groups of Mellieha, which took place in the Parish Square.
The Mayor Mr. Christos Zannettou expressed his will that he will support every effort to further strengthen the relations between the two cities in terms of the exchange of know-how and experiences as well as the exchange of cultural activities.
He also expressed his warm thanks to the Mayor Mr. Gabriel Micallef, to the Members of the Municipal Council and the staff of the Municipality of Mellieha for the warm welcome and warm hospitality they offered to the delegation of the Municipality of Ayia Napa.
