The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, welcomed on Thursday, June 26, to his office the international Beach Volleyball athletes of the National Under-18 Team, Andreas Karaiskos and Michalis Kalafatis, who will participate in the qualifiers of the U18 European Championship to be held in the city of Portoroz, Slovenia, from July 2 to 5, 2025.
The two young athletes come from the Famagusta District and train at the Beach Volley Court located on "Lanta" beach in the Municipality of Ayia Napa. The meeting was also attended by the Beach Volley Development Program Coach of the Cyprus Volleyball Federation (CWF) in the Famagusta District, Mr. Andreas Zanis.
The Mayor congratulated the athletes on their qualification and stated that it is a great joy and honor "to see children from our region representing Cyprus in such important international events."
"The perseverance, dedication and talent you demonstrate fill us with pride," he added, adding, "the Municipality of Ayia Napa will continue to support sports and young athletes."
Finally, he wished them and the other members of the National Team good luck, expressing his certainty that they will honor the Cypriot colors in the best way.
For his part, Mr. Andreas Zanis, warmly thanked the Municipality of Ayia Napa and especially the Mayor, Mr. Christos Zannetou, for the continuous and valuable support in the sports infrastructure they provide to the KOPE. He also emphasized that "it is crucial for the development of athletes to train in excellent facilities, such as those of the Municipality of Ayia Napa".
Mr. Zanis also thanked the Municipality's Warehouse and Beach Bed/Umbrella Manager, Mr. Tasos Pateras, for his valuable assistance, as well as everyone who supports the athletes' efforts. "We are proud of the children and optimistic about their presence in Europe," he concluded.
After the meeting, Mr. Tasos Pateras accompanied the young athletes and their entourage to the sports facilities of "Lanta" beach, where they carried out a formal training session for photography purposes and then departed for Limassol where the final stage of the preparation of our country's National Team is taking place under the instructions of the Federal Technician Mr. Kyriakos Kamberidis.
