The Municipality of Ayia Napa hosts two performances of the play "The Cat" by the great Cypriot poet and writer Michalis Pashiardis, which is staged by the Off-Site Stage of the Hellenic Theatre Company and directed by Alexia Papalazarou.
Michalis Pashiardis' play "The Cat" will travel to the Municipal Apartments of Ayia Napa, Sotira and Achna, after the premiere that was recently given by the THOK's Off-Site Stage.
Its first stop will be the Sotira Municipal District - Municipality of Ayia Napa, where the performance will take place on Friday, April 11, 2025 at the Municipal Theater of the Sotira Municipal District at 20:00 PM.
In the Achna Municipal District, the performance will be given in the Achna Cultural Events Hall on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 20:00 PM.
This is a landmark work of Cypriot theatrical writing, deeply rooted in local tradition and folk wisdom, which, through the richness of the Cypriot dialect and its moving narrative, brings to life an era where debt, honor, romance, love, war, death and fate are inextricably intertwined, transforming personal stories into part of collective memory.
The direction and arrangement by Alexia Papalazarou, enriched with the quatrains of Michalis Pashiardis, unearths memories and experiences and illuminates, with the valuable assistance of the live music of Giorgos Kalogiros, the authenticity of this world that is gradually declining, but remains indelible in our souls. A performance that invites the old and new generation to travel to the warmth of the past and its language.
The late Michalis Pashiardis said the following about the project:
"... from a theatrical point of view, I believe that in this work I have summarized my experience in the field of writing to date. By writing the pieces in the Cypriot dialect, I discovered again and again that this language has not said its last word, it is a linguistic mine, it still has a lot to give to both poetry and theater, without ruling out that prose texts can also be given through this language, which long ago withstood the expressive formulation of a Leontios Machairas."
