The Funding Agreement was signed between the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy and the Municipality of Ayia Napa for the implementation of the "Smart Cities" project, with a maximum funding amount of €645.710.
The Agreement was signed by the Director General of the Deputy Ministry, Mr. George Komodromos, and the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou.
The project is part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan "Cyprus - the future" and is funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU. It includes, among others, the development and upgrade of digital infrastructure, the interconnection of systems and sensors with the national CY Smart City platform, the implementation of smart parking solutions, as well as actions to upgrade and maintain street lighting.
Mayor Mr. Christos Zannetou emphasized that the use of technology is a key tool for the creation of a modern, sustainable and efficient Municipality, with upgraded services for citizens, professionals and visitors.
At the same time, he expressed his warm and sincere thanks to the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy and in particular to the Deputy Minister, Dr. Nikodimos Damianou, for the substantial support, trust and excellent cooperation throughout the preparation and promotion of the project.
He also extended special thanks to the Director General, Mr. George Komodromos, to the executives of the Deputy Ministry and to all the associates involved for their professionalism, dedication and contribution to the successful completion of the required procedures.
The excellent cooperation between the Municipality of Ayia Napa and the Deputy Ministry proves that, through coordination, dialogue and common targeting, projects with a substantial impact can be implemented, which enhance development, innovation and the quality of life of citizens.
