The Ayia Napa Municipality will be the host of the 2026 King's Baton Relay, which takes place as part of the Commonwealth Games, strengthening the Municipality's presence in a major global sporting event.
The King's Baton Relay is expected to arrive in Ayia Napa on Saturday, May 23, 2026, as part of its global route passing through Commonwealth countries, conveying the message of sport, peace, cooperation and unity of peoples.
Ayia Napa's participation in the event was confirmed following a recent meeting held in his office by the Deputy Mayor of the Ayia Napa Municipal District, Mr. Antonis Christou, on behalf of the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christou Zannetou, with the Administrative Officer of the Cyprus Olympic Committee, Mr. George Panayidis, and the member of the Committee's Executive Board, Mr. George Papageorgiou.
During the meeting, issues related to the organization, coordination of actions, as well as Ayia Napa's participation in this international relay race, which is one of the most important symbolic actions associated with the Commonwealth Games, were discussed.
The inclusion of Ayia Napa in the relay route is expected to provide significant international visibility to the city, while at the same time highlighting the values of sports, peace, cooperation and unity of peoples.
The Municipality of Ayia Napa expresses its warm thanks to the Cyprus Olympic Committee for its cooperation and support, as well as to Messrs. Panayides and Papageorgiou for their contribution to the city's inclusion in this important international route.
