The Euronews journalistic team was hosted by the Municipality of Ayia Napa on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, as part of the recording and promotion of the “Neighborhood Social Worker” program. During the visit, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zannetou, welcomed the social workers, as well as the network team, underlining the importance of this initiative for the local community.
During the mission's presence, interviews were held with the Mayor, Mr. Christos Zannetou, as well as with the beneficiaries of the program, through which its substantial contribution to the direct and effective support of citizens, especially vulnerable groups, was highlighted. Particular emphasis was given to the importance of human presence and intervention within the communities themselves, an element that strengthens trust and social cohesion.
At the same time, the crucial importance of close cooperation between Social Welfare Services and the Local Authority was underlined, a cooperation that constitutes a key pillar for the exercise of effective social policy.
Speaking to Euronews, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, said that “Euronews’ visit to Ayia Napa is a special honor for our Municipality and, at the same time, an important opportunity to highlight the social work being carried out at the local level.” He added that “the “Neighborhood Social Worker” program demonstrates in practice that a people-centered policy can bring about substantial results.”
He also emphasized that "as a Municipality we will continue, responsibly and consistently, to invest in actions that strengthen social cohesion and support every fellow citizen in need."
