With a grand anniversary event entitled "200 Years of Memory", which will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the land area of Ayia Napa Port, the Municipality of Ayia Napa, in collaboration with the "Aroma" Association of Ayia Napa - Friends of the Sculpture Park, are honoring the completion of two centuries since the Battle of Ayia Napa, which was fought between the Greek revolutionaries, led by Hadjimichalis Dalianis, and the Ottoman forces of the region.
The event will be attended by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mr. Costas Fitiris, representing the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides. Delegations from the twinned Municipality of Pogoni and the Municipality of Sfakion, led by the mayors, Mr. Konstantinos Kapsalis and Mr. Ioannis Zervos, respectively, will also be present.
The program will open at 17:45 with an anniversary procession, which will start from Makariou Avenue and end at the event venue. Organized ensembles, dance groups, cultural groups, associations and educational institutions of all levels from the free province of Famagusta will participate in the procession, under the sounds of the Cyprus Police Force Philharmonic.
Upon the arrival of the procession, the ceremonial transfer of the flag of the Revolution by the Cyprus Frogmen Association Group will follow at 18:15, as well as the lighting of the flame at the Monument to the Heroes of the Revolution and the hoisting of flags. At 18:30, the unveiling of the monument to the chieftain Hatzimichalis Dalianis, a leading figure in the battle and the Greek Revolution of 1821, will take place.
Greetings will follow from the president of the Ayia Napa "Aroma" Association, Friends of the Sculpture Park, Mr. Christakis Pittas, and the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, while the day's solemn address will be delivered by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mr. Costas Fitiris.
At 19:10, the film "The Battle of Ayia Napa", produced by the Municipality of Ayia Napa, will be screened, while at 19:30 the event will culminate with the music and dance performance "200 Years of Cyprus - Crete", with Petros Kouloumis and Yannis Kritikos, accompanied by renowned musicians and the participation of dance groups, cultural and folklore ensembles, such as the "Toumpezia" Folklore Group of Ayia Napa, the "Tradition" Cultural Group of Liopetri, the "THOI" Cultural Group of Avgorou, the "Kimon" Dance Group of Xylotymvos, the "Avkoritissa Foni" Folklore Group and the Ormidia Cultural Group.
The evening will conclude with the singing of the National Anthem.
