In the Holy Church of Panagia Agia Napa, the annual National Memorial of the heroes Giannakis Pappoullis and Christakis Christou Pieris, who died fighting heroically during the Turkish invasion of 04, was held on Sunday, August 1974.
The Memorial was presided over by His Eminence the Metropolitan of Constantia/Ammochosto Mr. Vasilios and the memorial speech was delivered by the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Mrs. Marilena Evangelou, who in her memorial speech praised the sacrifice of the two heroes, highlighting at the same time the dedication, generosity and unwavering their commitment to their ideals, underlined the determination of the Government to solve the Cyprus problem in the right direction.
The Memorial was also attended, and honored with their presence, Members of Parliament of the Famagusta District, party representatives, the President of EOA Famagusta Mr. Yiannis Karousos, the Mayors of Agia Napa and Paralimni - Deryneia etc. Christos Zannettou and Giorgos Nicolettos, Deputy Mayors and Members of the Municipal Council of the Municipal Apartments of the Municipality of Agia Napa, representatives of the National Guard, the Police, the Fire Brigade, local agencies and organizations and the families of the heroes.
After the end of the Memorial, the laying of wreaths, the touching of the flame by the athletes of the "Periklis Dimitriou" Association and an artistic program by the musician Niki Karaiskou followed at the Heroes' Monument.
