Following the opening ceremony of the Founding Conference of the Unified Cultural Doctrine of Cyprus - Greece - Hellenism Worldwide (EPOD), "The Communities of the Greeks", which took place yesterday, Saturday, November 09, at the Municipal Theater of Ayia Napa, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, visited the "George Seferis" Cultural Center, where he addressed a brief greeting to the participants during the proceedings of the 7th Seferis Symposium.
The President of the Republic was welcomed at the Cultural Center by the Mayor of Ayia Napa and President of the Organizing Committee of the Symposium, Mr. Christos Zannetou, the Deputy Mayors of Achna, Sotira, Liopetriou, Avgorou and Ayia Napa, Messrs. Nikos Vasilas, Antonis Koumis, Markos Koumis, Panagis Michaelas and Antonis Christou, the members of the Organizing Committee of the Symposium, as well as the heads of the Scientific Committee, Messrs. Giorgos Georgis and Pantelis Voutouris, and the President of the Association "Aroma" of Ayia Napa - Friends of the Sculpture Park, Member of the Organizing Committee of the Symposium, Mr. Christakis Pittas.
President Christodoulides, a long-time loyal and ardent supporter of the Symposium since its inception, then as Government Spokesperson, then as Minister of Foreign Affairs and today as President of the Republic, reiterated his commitment to actively support the institution, placing it under his auspices every year and, where possible, personally participating in its work.
In his greeting, Mr. Christodoulides congratulated the organizers for their continuous contribution to literature and culture, underlining the importance of the Symposium as a space for cultivation, study and dialogue around the work and legacy of George Seferis.
He also expressed his certainty that the work of the 7th Symposium will contribute substantially to the promotion of intellectual creation and cultural extroversion of the Municipality of Ayia Napa.
