The sculptors participating in the 10th International Sculpture Symposium had their first encounter with the Municipal Apartments of the Municipality of Ayia Napa, as part of an excursion organized by the Symposium Organizing Committee. During the trip, they were accompanied by the Vice President of the Organizing Committee and President of the Association “Aroma Ayia Napa – Friends of the Sculpture Park”, Mr. Christakis Pittas, who offered the guests interesting information about the area.
The first stop of the excursion was the Municipal District of Sotiras, where the sculptors were welcomed by the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Antonis Koumis. Together with Father George Hatziadamou, they guided the participants to the EOKA 55-59 Struggle Museum, the ecclesiastical Museum of Agios Georgios, the old church of the Transfiguration of the Savior, and the chapel of Agios Mamas.
Afterwards, the bus headed to the Municipal District of Liopetri, where the visitors were welcomed by the Deputy Mayor Mr. Markos Koumis. The sculptors were given a tour of the bust of the EOKA hero Modestos Pantelis, the historic Barn and the Liopetri River, a spot known for its natural beauty and its connection with local tradition. Present on the tour of the Municipal District of Liopetri was also the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal District of Ayia Napa, Mr. Antonis Christou, while during the coffee that followed at the Nationalist Associations, they were also welcomed by the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou.
The third stop was the Municipal District of Avgorou. There, Deputy Mayor Mr. Panayis Michailas, together with Mr. Panagiotis Karyos, undertook to guide the artists through the EOKA Struggle Museum, as well as the Ethnographic Museum, offering them an authentic image of the cultural and historical heritage of the community.
The excursion concluded with a visit to the Municipal District of Achna, where the sculptors were given a tour by the Deputy Mayor Mr. Nikos Vasilas of the chapel of Agios Georgios, the Achna dam and the old stadium of the National Football Team of Achna, from where they had the opportunity to gaze upon occupied Achna. Next came the new stadium of the National Football Team, the Refugee Monument and the War Memorial in the central square. The day ended with a traditional meal at a restaurant of the Municipal District of Avgorou.
The sculptors expressed their enthusiasm and gratitude for the unique experience offered to them, stating that they were impressed by the hospitality, cultural heritage and natural landscape of the Municipal Apartments of the Municipality of Ayia Napa.
