On Wednesday, September 18, at the Cultural Center of Ayia Napa "Giorgos Seferis", the presentation of the literary work of Mrs. Eleni Tyrimos entitled "Mother of the Invasion... Pain of half a century", which is dedicated to the Mother of '74 and the 50 Years of the invasion and possession.
A work which, as the philologist Ms. Christina Themistokleous said in its presentation, is dedicated to the Mother of '74 and the 50 Years of invasion and occupation, and is a small sign of love and respect for the mother of many children, her daily self-sacrifice and the difficult struggle that performs for her children and her family in general.
The presentation was preceded by the greetings of the President of the Provincial Secretariat of Famagusta, which organized the event, Mr. Nikos Tassos, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannettos, the Commander of the 7th Infantry Brigade, Mr. Manolis Manolis, and the President of Cyprus Cultural Association Dr. Giorgos Kitromelidis, who due to bereavement was unable to attend and his greeting was read by Ms. Panagiota Markou.
Welcoming the event, the President of the Provincial Secretariat of Famagusta, Mr. Nikos Tassos, said that the event is not only a book presentation, but a recognition of the author's contribution and a reminder of our responsibility towards our history, towards our Cyprus.
Eleni Tyrimou added, through her writing career, she brings us closer to the stories and feelings of people who were directly affected by the invasion. "She herself, as a member of a large family who experienced the pain of her missing brother, conveys through her work the true experiences of these brave people."
The Provincial Secretariat of Multiple Children of Famagusta continued "it is particularly proud to support this presentation and we hope that its work will touch the hearts of all of us"
In his greeting, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannettou, said that "the preparation of this work of writing is for all of us the minimum tribute that as a society we must pay to all the heroes who are ignored, but also to the heroic role of his mother '74".
"I publicly congratulate Ms. Eleni Tyrimou for having the strength and courage through her personal experiences to capture in her writing the sensitivities, emotions and pain of half a century, especially that of Mana."
Finally, Mr. Zannettou expressed his warm thanks to Mrs. Tyrimos for her significant contribution to letters and by extension to the culture, roots and experiences of this place and wished her every success in her literary work.
Brigadier General Mr. Manoli Manoli stated that "today we did not come to present a book but to illuminate an aspect of history that remains alive in our hearts, a piece of collective memory that will never be erased." The mother of the dead soldier of 1974 added she has an open wound that is bleeding and it is as if her body lives on earth and her mind in heaven.
In her rebuttal, the author warmly thanked the Famagusta Provincial Secretariat for Multiple Children for organizing the event and all those who attended and honored the event with their presence.
He also noted that we should not forget and that such events should be held often not only so that we do not forget but so that the younger ones can learn. She added that the net income from the sales of her publications (five collections) will be allocated to the Famagusta Family Organization for needy families with many children.
The event was interspersed with an artistic program, which included recitations of poems by Mrs. Eleni Tyrimos, recited by Aimili Christofi, Elpida Christodoulou, Anastasia Papaevhelthontos, the writer's daughter Kentia Markou and her granddaughter Georgia Markou, as well as choreographies set to music poetry "Mother of Pain" and "Dreams" from the dance school Toxic Crew.
