Two car drivers were found to have committed serious traffic violations during traffic checks carried out by members of the Police, last night, in the province of Famagusta.
Specifically, around 9:10 last night, members of the Famagusta Traffic Police, while conducting traffic checks on the Larnaca - Ayia Napa highway, found that a car driven by a 23-year-old was moving at a speed of 174 km, instead of 100 km from the permissible speed limit. The members of the Police stopped the 23-year-old driver, whom they reported.

A little later, at 10:20 last night, on Nisi Street, in Ayia Napa, the members of the Famagusta Traffic Police stopped a car driven by a 34-year-old and proceeded to a preliminary check of the driver for driving under the influence of alcohol, with an indication of 128μg% ml, instead of 22 μg% ml which is the allowed limit, while in a final alcohol test, the 34-year-old did not give a satisfactory expiratory sample.
The 34-year-old was subsequently arrested by members of the Police and remanded in custody to facilitate investigations. A case of driving under the influence of alcohol and refusing to provide a satisfactory sample for a final alcohol examination is being investigated against him.
The Famagusta Traffic Police continues the examinations.
