With a trisagion and the laying of wreaths by the Deputy Mayor of the Ayia Napa Municipal District, Mr. Antonis Christou, the relatives of the heroes, Members of the Municipal Council and representatives of parties and organized bodies at the busts of the heroes Loukas A. Loukas, Giannakis Pappoullis and Christakis Christou Pieris, a torchlight procession that took place on Monday evening (March 31) and a Doxology on the day of the April 1st Anniversary at the Holy Church of Panagia of Ayia Napa, the Ayia Napa Municipal District honored the Anniversary of the Beginning of the Liberation Struggle 1955-59.
The day's celebration was delivered by the Director of the KIE of Kokkinochoria, Mr. Konstantinos Koumis, who stated that today we honor all those who fought and sacrificed for the homeland, keeping alive the historical memory and the ideals of freedom, democracy and national dignity.
April 1, 1955-59, he added, remains a day of national remembrance and pride for Cypriot Hellenism, and the struggle of EOKA is a source of inspiration and reminder of the strength that a people hides within when they claim their freedom.
After the Doxology, the Band of the Ayia Napa Municipal Council and the Church of Panagia Ayia Napa took part in the Famagusta District Parade which took place in the Sotira Municipal District - Ayia Napa Municipality.
