Tony Kushner's iconic play "Angels in America", which is staged by the Dionysos Theatre and directed by Emilios Charalambides, is presented on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 8:00 pm at the Ayia Napa Municipal Theatre, the Ayia Napa Municipality's Quarterly Theatre Performances.
The play "Angels in America" is perhaps one of the most important of modern dramaturgy, it is a prophetic and terrifyingly timely work. Through successive conflicts, the crisis becomes apparent on a political, sexual, religious, economic, ecological, health and, above all, moral level.
Our work goes back to the period of the Reagan administration in the USA, which reminds us quite a bit of the period we are going through, in which the rise of the right, perhaps even the far right in some cases, is observed.
The two stories, which Kushner develops in his work, through many short scenes, are interconnected and evolve in parallel times. Reality and fantasy, magical realism and black comedy are employed by the author to talk about the end of the world, about a social and emotional Babel where everyone is unable to communicate with each other. And above all about the drama that obsessions, political decisions, covert behaviors and religious obsessions bring to ordinary people.
