About six thousand children will take part in this year's Ayia Napa Tournament, which starts today, March 31 and lasts until April 4, and will be held at the Ayia Napa Sports Center.
It is the largest football football academy tournament in the Mediterranean, organized by the SoccerWorldCyprus Association, is under the auspices of the KOP and the Municipality of Ayia Napa and is sponsored by the Cyprus Tourism Organization.
A written announcement of the Municipality of Ayia Napa states that "in this year's 17th Tournament will take part more than 350 teams with about six thousand children born from 2002 to 2012, ie aged 6-16 years, while women's teams will also compete. 22 teams from five foreign countries arrived and it is estimated that about 20 thousand fans will watch the games, most of them relatives and friends of the young footballers ".
This year's event "is dedicated to Fair Play, is institutionally supported by the KOA, is under the auspices of the KOP and the Municipality of Ayia Napa, which hosts the Tournament at its Sports Center which includes 16 football fields with natural turf. Cytavision, a television partner, will broadcast live six finals and the awards on Wednesday, April 4, while the main sponsor is the CTO ".
As part of the tournament, a lecture entitled "You also have a responsibility… How to Properly Support My Child in Sports" is being organized at 18.30 this afternoon in Ayia Napa and among the speakers will be Fair Play Ambassador Konstantinos Charalambidis.
According to the announcement, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Giannis Karousos, stated that “it has been established in the Municipality to inaugurate the tourist season with this big tournament, the big celebration of football, sports and tourism. This year the event will take place in an upgraded sports center, since last year the Municipality started a program to upgrade sports infrastructure, with the support of the CTO, investing more than one million euros, to get the sports center where it deserves.
He added that "the event contributes the most to the expansion of the tourist season, as the hotels will be full and Ayia Napa will be full of life. We estimate that more than 20.000 visitors will come to Ayia Napa, with all the benefits that will exist ".
