On the occasion of their visit to Ayia Napa, following an invitation by the Mayor, Mr. Christos Zannetou, to attend the grand anniversary event organized by the Ayia Napa Municipality to commemorate the National Rebirth and the 199th Anniversary of the unique battle of the Greek Revolution in Cyprus, which took place in Ayia Napa on March 17, 1826, they were given a tour of various landmarks as well as historical monuments located throughout the territory of the Ayia Napa Municipality, from the Municipal District of Achna to the Municipal District of Ayia Napa.
On the first day, they visited the Achna Municipal Building where they were informed by both the Mayor, Mr. Christos Zannetou, and the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Nikos Vasilas, about occupied Achna, about the theme park, the area where over seventy thousand refugees were hosted in tents after the 1974 war, the refugee tent monument and the Achna Heroes Monument.
Late in the afternoon they visited the Municipal Museum "THALASSA" where they were given a tour by the painter himself, Mr. Panikkos P. Hatzidakis, of his exhibition "The Battle of Ayia Napa in the Greek Revolution and the Greek Revolution of 1821" as well as of the exhibits of the temporary Famagusta art gallery, which is housed in the Museum until the return to their beloved city.
On the second day of their visit, they went to the Famagusta Cultural Center in Deryneia where, with deep emotion painted on their faces, they gazed at the enslaved Famagusta from the observatory and received extensive information about the city from both the Mayor Mr. Christos Zannetou and a Member of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Famagusta. The two Mayors of Pogoni and Sfakion, Mr. Konstantinos Kapsalis and Ioannis Zervos, as well as all the members of the delegation, expressed their wish that the city would soon be returned to its legal residents. They then visited the Byzantine chapel of Agios Mamatos and the Square of the Holy Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior, in Sotira.
The third day of their tour began with the laying of wreaths at the monument to the hero of the 1955-59 Liberation Struggle, Loukas Loukas, in Heroes Square in Ayia Napa. They then went to the Liopetri Municipal Hall where they visited the Liopetri Barn, laid a wreath at the monument to the four heroes and were informed about the historic Battle and the sacrifice of the heroes by the son of Andreas Karyos (one of the four heroes of the Barn), Mr. Panagiotis Karyos.
They also laid a wreath at the monument to the first hero of EOKA, Modestos Pantelis, located in the Square of the Municipal District of Liopetri and immediately after at the hero's house where they spoke with his wife, siblings and relatives.
Immediately afterwards, they visited the Museum of Struggle and the Ethnographic Museum in the Municipal District of Avgorou, where their three-day tour was completed.
