The construction site of the Modern Outdoor People's Market of Deryneia was visited on Thursday, August 29, 2024 by the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia Mr. Giorgos Nikolettos for an on-site inspection of the progress of the works.
The project concerns the creation of infrastructure for the needs of the People's Market and includes the creation of covered areas for selling products, the creation of parking spaces including parking spaces for the disabled and large cars (buses, trucks), the creation of a cafe, public sanitary facilities, the creation of a square, sidewalks and green spaces, but also the creation of a playground and the design of a square.
The benefits that the project will bring to Deryneia and the wider area of Famagusta District will be multiple and multidimensional. The project promotes the improvement and/or expansion of infrastructure to accommodate basic services for the rural population, including culture and recreation. The Project as proposed for implementation will substantially contribute to upgrading the provision of basic services, promoting local development in rural areas by promoting local products and supporting producers, creating new jobs, upgrading social and cultural traditions with the aim of maintaining of the local population, in attracting local and foreign tourism.
The Project budget amounts to €1.240.000,00 (without VAT). The Project is part of the Rural Development Program 2014-2020, in Measure 7 "Basic Services and Regeneration of Villages in Rural Areas". The Project is co-financed by the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organization and the European Funds Unit of the Ministry of the Interior.
Also present at the visit were the Deputy Mayor of Deryneia, Mr. Nikos Lilis, and the Municipal Engineer, Mr. Andreas Genagritis.
