Vespers and the Divine Liturgy were celebrated with emotion in the chapel of Agia Marina in the dead zone, next to the occupied Deryneia beach.
On the occasion of the feast of Agia Marina, the Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia secured permission from the peacekeeping force of the United Nations for the operation of the chapel in the dead zone.
A wish for a return to Famagusta, expressed the Mayor of Paralimni-Deryneia Giorgos Nikolettos. "With mixed feelings we come today with feelings of joy but at the same time emotion to honor Agia Marina in the dead zone a lot of people come with reverence we want to thank the UN for this possibility and we hope and pray that next year we will come without restrictions to walk in occupied Famagusta".
The Deputy Mayor of Deryneia, Nikos Lillis, said that "you are sending another message from this very place of peace, solidarity and why not celebrate together on the beach of Deryneia"
The Byzantine chapel remained open for pilgrimage until 11:30 in the morning.
