The Temple, which associates its name with the great hermit of the desert, Saint Anthony, has developed since its foundation rich and multifaceted intellectual and social work and activity. Over time, he managed to preserve the faith and tradition of Orthodoxy, promoting the ethos and values of Christianity and contributing greatly to the strengthening of the spiritual culture of the faithful, but also to their substantial support to the various difficulties they have faced over the centuries.
At the same time, the Church of Agios Antonios in Deryneia has played a significant role and is a symbol of female monasticism in our country. According to written reports, both the Holy Monastery of Agios Georgios of Alamanos As well as the Holy Monastery of Agia Theklis in Sotira were founded by the nuns of the Holy Temple of Agios Antonios Deryneia, who with respect and deep religiosity undertook the difficult task of developing the two Holy Temples in religious and spiritual centers.
In the greeting of o Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Giannis Karousos, reported:
"Being in the outskirts of Deryneia, just a few meters from occupied Famagusta, it would be an omission on my part not to mention the timeless and valuable contribution of the Church to the struggle that the President of the Republic resolutely pays to curb the intransigence of the Turkish side. and to resume the process of finding a solution to the Cyprus problem, which will guarantee the rights and freedoms of the entire Cypriot people.
You are very busy, dear friends,
Today has a festive character for the Diocese of Constantia and Famagusta, the citizens of Deryneia and the region of Famagusta, but also the faithful throughout Cyprus. I would like to take this opportunity to convey my warm congratulations to those who worked and completed the renovation of the Temple.
I am sure that the Holy Temple of Agios Antonios will function as a refuge of Christian love, where each of our fellow citizens will draw strength to face the difficulties they are experiencing ".
