The funeral of the last person trapped in Agios Andronikos, Karpasia, Milia Christofi, aged 12.2.2025, was held on Wednesday 86 at the Deryneia Municipal District.
The late Milia, together with her husband Andreas, were the only representatives of the Greek Cypriot community in Agios Andronikos, Karpasia, who chose to keep the flame of the presence of the Republic of Cyprus in this area burning.
The land of Deryneia welcomed the late Milia into its arms and as the Deputy Mayor of Deryneia District, Mr. Nikos G. Lilis, characteristically emphasized in his brief obituary, “… it is the highest honor for our Municipality to host what is very honorable for us, this fact and to contribute even in the smallest way to the moral vindication and recognition of the long-term struggle that she waged together with her beloved husband…” He then emphasized the moral obligation of all those who constitute the structure of our State to truly support these people. He also mentioned that, “… we have partial experience with those trapped (Strovilia area) and we could imagine the difficulties that concern both their livelihood and the difficulties in securing state affection.
The funeral was attended by the Community Leader of Agios Andronikos, Ms. Stella Fysentsou, who bid farewell to the late Milia in her own way, and representatives of the Humanitarian Affairs Service for Missing and Entrapped Persons, as well as several relatives, fellow villagers, friends and appreciators of the family's struggle.
