Yesterday afternoon, the Police received information that in the parking lot of an apartment building, in an area of Famagusta, two people were allegedly cutting up an animal using knives.
Members of the Deryneia Police Station immediately went to the scene, where one of the two individuals fled, while the second, a 36-year-old man, remained at the scene.
During the on-site investigation, plastic bags containing a dismembered animal were found, as well as an axe and five knives.
The suspect, when questioned, stated that the animal was a kangaroo and that he had received it from another person in the Paralimni area.
According to a Veterinary Services officer, it is a dismembered adult kangaroo.
The animal was taken by the competent services for further examinations.
The 36-year-old was transferred to the Deryneia Police Station, where it was determined that he was residing in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus illegally, since his request for asylum had been rejected in 2022.
An arrest warrant was issued against him and he was arrested to facilitate interrogations.
The Deryneia Police Station continues the examinations.
