In the last 24 hours, the Fire Service responded to a total of 26 incidents, 16 fires and 10 special services, with the most important being a fire that occurred at 13:37 in an independent utility kitchen in the yard of a house in Deryneia district.
According to the Fire Service Spokesman, the Famagusta Fire Station responded with two fire engines. The fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen and its contents. It spread into an adjacent covered car park and caused minor damage to a parked Toyota Avensis vehicle.
The fire was extinguished by the members of the Fire Department by installing a water hose and entering the area using breathing apparatus. None of the occupants were in danger.
The fire was caused by a forgotten cooking utensil with cooking oil overheating.
