The Mayor of Deryneia, Mr. Andros G. Karagiannis, expresses once again his strong concerns about the delay in the elaboration of the Local Plan of Paralimni, Ayia Napa and Deryneia.
The Mayor of Deryneia has sent several letters to both the Ministry of Interior and the City Council, expressing his concerns, as the delay is stunting growth in the remote Municipality of Deryneia and the province of Famagusta in general.
The last information that the Mayor of Deryneia received from the Department of Urban Planning and Housing for the procedure that is expected to be followed until the approval and final publication of the Local Plan, is that it is placed in 2021.
The non-publication of the Local Plan of Paralimni, Ayia Napa and Deryneia, has caused great disappointment both to the local authorities and to those interested in housing new couples. Many interested parties who would like to benefit from the sponsorship plan for the remote areas and develop their plots cannot because according to the current Local Plan of 2003, since the one of 2012 was canceled, they are not included in the residential zone.
Through the new Local Plan, Deryneia expects to become the cultural core of the province of Famagusta as well as a university city. Investing in the basic strategy of equal distribution of resources, the Municipality considers that since it cannot benefit from tourism on an equal footing with the coastal Municipalities, it can invest in education and culture. Acritic Deryneia through strategic planning tries to attract beyond young couples and investors who will take advantage of the characteristics of acriticism by creating sustainable businesses. The creation of a University is in line with the long-term plans of the Municipality, to make Deryneia financially autonomous and attractive for young scientists.
It is with great surprise that we were informed that in the midst of consultation and waiting for the publication of the new Local Plan and the submission of a comprehensive Strategic Plan for the new programming period 2021-2027, the Council of Ministers approved in another Municipality similar press releases.
