The Municipality of Deryneia, after carefully studying the draft Policy Statement for the British Bases, the urban maps and the Strategic Environmental Impact Study published by the Department of Environment of the Republic of Cyprus and the Administration of the British Bases, expresses its displeasure. of all the proposals / suggestions submitted for the creation of some form of development in the area of Strovilia that falls within the boundaries of the Municipality of Deryneia.

A press release from the Municipality states that reasonable questions are being raised both in the City Council and in the world about the negative attitude of the British Bases, for any change and promotion of development in the area.

The few inhabitants of the area, says the mayor Andros Karagiannis, have once again been exposed without any guarantee for what will be born in their area, while the critical Deryneia is being wronged once again.

The Policy Statement that should play the role of regulator of development has defined the entire area within the boundaries of our Municipality as a countryside and agricultural land with restrictive measures. The only substantial achievement secured in the region is the securing of a large military area. There are multiple radars in this area that we consider to be detrimental to public health and the environment in general.

The Municipality of Deryneia reserves the right to submit all legal objections to ensure the rights and well-being of its citizens. The municipality has sent relevant letters on this issue to all the Ministries involved, to the competent bodies and to the Political Commander of the British Bases of Dhekelia.
