Documents about the dead zone in Deryneia are being prepared by two major German private television stations, n-tv and RTL Channel.

As stated by the Mayor of Deryneia, Andros Karagiannis, "in November 2018, the first channel of the German television ARD visited the area in order to be informed and to record whether there is cooperation between the two communities in Cyprus and especially in the remote areas. The documentary also raised the issue of the opening of the Deryneia roadblock ".

He added that "yesterday followed the descent of the two private German news TV channels n-tv and RTL in order to record the developments after the opening of the roadblock, in particular whether the crossings continue normally and whether there is still cooperation between E / k and T / k especially in the dead zone ".

As Mr. Karagiannis stated, "the two TV channels were particularly interested in what is happening in the dead zone, taking into account that Deryneia utilizes, as far as possible, the dead zone for agricultural purposes. The journalists of the channels expressed the opinion that if the two Communities continue to use the agricultural land in the dead zone for the cultivation of fruits and vegetables, peace may come to Cyprus as well ".

The mayor also said that he informed the journalists about the fact that Deryneia "is a special case of a remote municipality, since it has to do with the occupying army, the United Nations and the British at the British bases in Strovilia. "Despite the fact that Deryneia is related to these three military units, however, with the minimal staff it has, it functions as a living municipality", he noted.

He added that "yesterday while we were in the area of the dead zone, in the presence of journalists and technicians of the German channels, the Turks on the opposite side, using heavy machinery, carried sand that was stacked near the firing range near a house located at the municipal borders of occupied Famagusta ".

Answering a question, Mr. Karagiannis said that "the Germans are particularly sensitive to such issues since they had their own Berlin Wall. The two TV channels are based in Berlin and combine the remote area of Cyprus with the history of their city in terms of their own wall ".

To another question, he answered that "the journalists were satisfied with their visit to Deryneia, after they themselves realized that the dead zone in the area is really being used for agricultural purposes. "Experience has told us that we must continue to exploit agricultural land in the dead zone and they have talked to producers who are active within the zone."

The Mayor of Deryneia also said that during their visit to Cyprus, journalists and TV channel technicians visited occupied Famagusta, among others.
