58-year-old Manolis Konstantinou from Deryneia lost his life on Friday night when he was run over by a passing vehicle while changing a tire on his car, according to a recent update from the British Bases Police.
An autopsy, which will determine the official cause of death, will be performed later this afternoon.
It is recalled that the accident occurred around 21:45 on the eastern highway, near the first exit towards Xylofagou. As reported, the victim was in the left lane of traffic at the time he was hit by another vehicle.
The highway remained closed for several hours, with traffic police conducting traffic diversions. The road was reopened to traffic at approximately 01:15.
The driver of the other vehicle was arrested and tested negative for alcohol and drugs, but remains in custody pending a court appearance later today, police said.
