The existing Deryneia People's Market was visited by the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. George Nikolettos. The Deputy Mayor of Deryneia, members of the Municipal Council, the Municipal Secretary and the Municipal Engineer of the Municipality were also present at the visit.
During his visit, the Mayor had the opportunity to talk with producers as well as citizens who were making their purchases at the market, which attracts a large number of visitors and is an important point for buying and selling fruit and vegetable products and processed products.
It is noted that the construction of the Modern Outdoor Market of Deryneia by the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia is at a very advanced stage and is expected to be completed in May 2025. The project concerns the creation of infrastructure for the needs of the Market and includes the creation of covered areas for the sale of products, the configuration of parking spaces including parking spaces for disabled people and large cars (buses, trucks), the creation of a cafe, public restrooms, the creation of a square, sidewalks and green spaces, as well as the creation of a playground and the configuration of a square.
The benefits that the project will bring to Deryneia and the wider region of Famagusta District will be multiple and multidimensional. The project promotes the improvement and/or expansion of infrastructure for housing basic services for the rural population, including culture and recreation.
The Project is part of the Rural Development Program 2014-2020, under Measure 7 "Basic Services and Village Regeneration in Rural Areas". The Project is co-financed by the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Agency and the European Funds Unit of the Ministry of Interior.
