A written statement regarding the events in Strovilia was issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday afternoon.
This announcement:
"In connection with the recent events in the area of Strovilia and on the occasion of publications, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to note the following:
On Friday, February 1, 2019, the Turkish occupying army, citing unsubstantiated allegations of alleged smuggling in the area, placed railings on a rural road blocking residents from crossing the road, which they use to access their crops.
In the days that followed, the occupying army informed the inhabitants of Strovilia that new "procedures" would now apply as they exited Strovilia to the British Bases. At the same time, the occupying regime began conducting checks on those visiting the Turbine area, including members of the Peacekeeping Force, at a point adjacent to the British Base.
The Government, from the very beginning, took relevant steps towards the Peace Force in Cyprus, the UN Secretariat in New York as well as the members of the United Nations Security Council.
The United Nations Peacekeeping Force has, after a relevant investigation, officially recorded that the recent actions of the occupying army are new violations of the military status quo in the region and is taking relevant steps towards the Turkish occupying forces.
The Government is closely monitoring the situation and is in constant consultation and cooperation with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force, which is working to remove the violations with the aim of fully restoring the status quo in the region. "
