At the same time, he called for the condemnation of Turkey's unilateral actions in Varosia and the besieged city of Famagusta and the illegal channeling of migrants from Turkey through the occupied areas to the free areas.

He added that "Turkey, as a candidate country for joining the European Union, violates the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, refuses the return of Varosians to their legal residents and promotes the closed city of Famagusta as a tourist attraction."

He also stated that "even the European Parliament itself, in a report dated June 7, 2022, recognized that Turkey's relations with the neighboring member states of the European Union" and expressed "regret and disappointment over the non-solution of the Cyprus problem".

The Mayor of Deryneia "called on the EEtP to condemn in the strongest possible way, both the illegal actions of Turkey in Famagusta, as well as the promotion of migrants from Turkey to the occupied territories. The illegal interventions in Varosia are taking place in front of our eyes against the background of the demolished houses and the looted properties of the Greek Cypriots", he concluded.
