Members of the Police have arrested a 40-year-old person, regarding an investigated case of assisting third-country nationals for illegal entry into the Republic of Cyprus, after the arrival of a number of migrants by sea boat in free Famagusta last night.
The sea vessel was spotted around 8.15 last night, off Cabo Greco. Members of the Coastal and Maritime Police located the vessel and transported the migrants (17 men, including four minors) safely to the fishing shelter of Paralimni. They then underwent background checks and were transferred to the Pournara reception center.
During the tests, evidence emerged against the 40-year-old, who was allegedly the captain of the boat the migrants were traveling in and was arrested early today and taken into custody to facilitate investigations.
The case is being investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.
