Through the implementation of these specific contracts, the EOAA is proceeding with targeted interventions for the faster repair of damages to the water network, with the aim of significantly addressing drinking water losses and improving the reliability of the water supply network in the areas of the Famagusta district. The works include excavations, road and sidewalk rehabilitation, as well as all the necessary accompanying works required for the immediate repair of the damages.
It is estimated that through these specific contracts, over 3.000 damages will be repaired, a particularly significant number for addressing drinking water losses.
The signing of the contracts was carried out by the President of the Famagusta Regional Development Authority, Mr. Yannis Karousos, and the representative of the contractor company, Mr. Lambros Lambrou, in the presence of members of the Board of Directors, the General Manager and the Management Team, as well as staff of the Organization.
In his statement, the President of the Famagusta Regional Administration, Mr. Yannis Karousos, stated that:
"Today, water losses in our water supply network reach approximately 36%, a particularly high percentage that affects both the proper management of water and the operating costs of the Organization. Through these specific contracts, we are proceeding for the first time in an organized and targeted effort to address a large number of failures in the water supply network, with the aim of significantly reducing drinking water losses.
This effort does not stop here, as other important interventions and projects will follow to modernize and upgrade the water supply infrastructure of the Famagusta Water District, such as the installation of smart water meters, with the aim of a more modern, efficient and reliable water supply network for all citizens of our province."
The project is implemented within the framework of the Political Cohesion Program "THALEIA 2021-2027" with the co-financing of the European Union.
