EP.AM / STOU: Cancellations in hotels have started - They are thinking of suspending their operation

Disappointment prevails in the last hours within the hotel industry of the province of Famagusta, after the decision of the ECDC to place Cyprus in the red zone, which is a small step from the red category.

A written statement of the Pancyprian Association of Hoteliers of Famagusta signed by the President of Doros Takkas, states that "bitterness, frustration and even indignation prevail in the last hours within the hotel industry of the province of Famagusta, after the ECDC , which is a small step from the red category ".

It adds that "the hoteliers of the province of Famagusta see that the sacrifices they have made and the efforts they have made to fully implement the protocols against Covid 19"Not only were they not respected with the corresponding positive results, but on the contrary they were trampled by some brainless people, who not only avoid being vaccinated but hide the fact that they have been infected with the virus".

The result of the whole situation "is to become a mobile bomb, which will blow up not only the hotel industry but the entire state economy. "Offers and various incentives to those who will be vaccinated is a solution, but it does not bend the negative approach of all those who refuse to be vaccinated or even admit that they had positive contact."

The hoteliers of the province of Famagusta, together with the rest of the tourism operators, continues the announcement "we have borne the brunt of the crisis in the tourism industry and we are now accepting new blows, which without exaggeration unless something radical changes, will mean the end of the hotel industry ".

It is already noted that "several hotels in the province of Famagusta are considering the possibility of suspending their operation, as our main markets remain closed, which unfortunately is expected to expand with the placement of Cyprus on the red map of the ECDC. Booking cancellations for the next few days and weeks have already started as it becomes very difficult to be in the red category and to think that we can attract tourism. No one will travel to Cyprus under these conditions since upon his return to his country he will be subject to quarantine ".

PASYXE Famagusta reports, "We expected more drastic measures from the government, which unfortunately we did not see. In addition to encouraging vaccination, the only measure taken is the return of the Safe Pass, which takes effect on July 9th. "Unfortunately, more drastic measures are required with immediate implementation, not after a week, since otherwise this year for tourism has been completely lost."
