The ax of justice fell heavily on a 43-year-old father, a permanent resident of the free province of Famagusta, who was facing charges related to child sexual abuse and specifically against his wife's two minor girls.
The Famagusta District Court in Paralimni sentenced him to three and a half years in prison, after he was found guilty after a hearing in which the complaining sisters testified as key witnesses.
The trial was held in camera to protect the identities of the two girls. The minors were deemed credible and their testimonies were accepted by the court. The offenses were committed on different dates during the years 2018-2020, at the home of the two brothers, in the municipality of free Famagusta. The first defendant at the time in dispute was 13 years old.
The 43-year-old father was found guilty of committing obscene acts against her and of sexually abusing her. The second defendant was 15 years old at the time in question. For her, too, her father was found guilty of sexually abusing her on two occasions, committing various heinous acts. The paradox in this case is that the biological father of the two complaining girls testified at trial… as a defense witness for the accused. In particular, he told the court that his two underage daughters confessed to him that the complaint they made to the Police against their father was false and that they reported him simply to get revenge and to evict him from their home.
During his interrogation, however, it became clear that this witness was lying in court, so he was deemed unreliable and his testimony was rejected in its entirety. The case was handled by Adamos Demosthenous for the prosecution.
