Famagusta: This is the most dangerous point of the road network

The most dangerous point of the road network in the province of Famagusta is pointed out by the Traffic Department of the Police Headquarters, according to its updated data, out of 26 Cypriots.

The relevant presentation was made recently for the road safety program, organized by the Department of Public Works of the Ministry of Transport, by the Assistant Head of Traffic, Haris Evripidou.

According to the presentation, a black spot on the road network is considered to be one in which three or more accidents occur with injuries or even deaths. A dangerous point is considered to be the one where two road collisions occur with injured or dead. In the past, black spots were over 80, but now the term has changed according to European standards.

It is noted that the "Cyprus Road Safety" Program is part of the joint effort of the European Commission and the European Investment Bank to support the Member States of the European Union, through the Safer Transport Platform Program.

According to a study conducted in Cyprus, the islets that are constructed separating the streets of the cities, are considered to be extremely helpful as they correct the mistakes of the drivers. A typical case is Nikos Pattihis Avenue in Limassol, where 700 accidents were recorded before the construction of the islet and after its installation, despite the reactions, the clashes were reduced to zero.

The dangerous point in Famagusta

The dangerous point in the province of Famagusta, after the analysis of road traffic collisions, according to the presentation of Mr. Euripides, is the Liopetri-Avgorou road, between 30th-40th km.

After locating a dangerous or black spot, the Traffic Police takes increased surveillance measures with patrols, while the installation of fixed traffic cameras is also planned to prevent further accidents.
