Famagusta District: Struggle for rescue of small and medium enterprises

Rents, taxation, lack of support for small and medium enterprises are the reasons that push the shopkeepers of the province of Famagusta to carry out mass mobilizations.

In her statements to KYPE, the president of the Ayia Napa shopkeepers Maria Hadjichristou, stressed that the businesses of the province are sinking.

Unemployment is knocking on our door, he said, while many companies are about to put a "padlock", he said, adding that small and medium enterprises are emitting SOS.

The Koronoi pandemic, according to the shopkeepers, was the tombstone of the companies that despite the fact that we are in the heart of summer, the receipts are extremely reduced.

The General Assembly POVEK together with its Associations in the Free Region of Famagusta and with the cooperation and participation of the Associations PASIKA Famagusta and SIKA Famagusta, undertake a STRUGGLE for the rescue of small and medium enterprises of the Tourist Areas of Free Famagusta.

We have successfully dealt with the coronavirus pandemic, according to a press release, and our "death" risks have been minimized. The economic crisis that followed the coronavirus threatens to wipe out the majority of small and medium-sized enterprises in the region.

We depend exclusively on Tourism, it is pointed out. The tourist season is 4-5 months a year and we are called to cover all the expenses of the year with the huge rents and to live our families. This year tourism is ZERO, WITHOUT REVENUE, but expenses, EXPENSES. The danger of our businesses being destroyed is not just visible, it has become a nightmare, it has become a certainty.

The effects of the coronavirus crisis are not just a matter for small businesses, they are a matter for EVERYONE.

Through the bulletin, they call on the state to stop hiding behind "unconstitutional tricks" and to provide solutions immediately, while we are still alive.

The tourist areas are, they emphasize, in despair and roar, do you hear, Mr. President, Ministers, Members?

We demand equal treatment with others. To be given the opportunities that belong to us and we are entitled to.

The crisis is no longer for the little ones. It is for EVERYONE. Equal for all!

We hold a press conference and mobilization on Thursday, July 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the open-air theater of the Thalassa Museum, Ayia Napa *.
